Match preview: Eastbourne Borough (A)

9 October 2025

Tomorrow, Luke Garrard’s side kick-off the Emirates FA Cup campaign as we lock horns with Eastbourne Borough in the fourth qualifying round, kicking-off at 15:00.

Last season for the Sports

It was nearly a season to remember in East Sussex as the Sports were defeated by Maidstone United in the Enterprise National League South play-off semi-final following a third-placed finish.

This was a sign of progression for Saturday’s hosts who avoided relegation by six points in the season prior.

One to watch

Captain Dan Quick played a pivotal role in Eastbourne’s success last season and he will be hoping to lead them away from the relegation zone this term. The former Crystal Palace youth defender has asserted himself as a regular in their backline since his arrival in the summer of 2023 and has appeared on eight occasions so far in the league this term.

The Wood

A 3-0 victory away at Yeovil Town ensured that we extended our unbeaten run to 12 National League matches. Abdul Abdulmalik opened the scoring with 20 minutes on the clock thanks to a sublime curling strike before Matt Rush and Femi Ilesanmi extended the advantage in a dominant showing.

Last time we met

We faced Eastbourne on two occasions last season with both sides competing for promotion to the National League.

The first meeting saw the Sports run out as 2-1 winners courtesy of Finn Mac Ballard-McBride’s winner before the Wood scored three goals within five second-half minutes to seal a 3-0 victory in March thanks to a Kwesi Appiah brace and Matt Rush’s stunning strike.
