Match preview: Southend United (H)

Tomorrow, Luke Garrard’s side will be looking to build on Saturday’s victory over Woking with the visit of Southend United, kicking off at 19:45. 

Last season for the Shrimpers

It was nearly a season to remember for Kevin Maher’s outfit last term as they came minutes away from sealing a return to the Football League for the first time since 2021.

Following a late season surge into the play-offs, Southend fell to a 3-2 defeat to Oldham Athletic in the play-off final after two dramatic victories over Rochdale and Forest Green Rovers en route.

One to watch

A well-known striker at this level after successful spells with Solihull Moors and Chesterfield, Andrew Dallas is back in the Enterprise National League as he looks to spearhead Southend’s promotion charge. The 26-year-old signed on loan from Barnsley in the summer and has netted four goals so far this season.

Last time we met

Our last clash with the Shrimpers came in our previous National League season as they ran out as 4-2 victors at Roots Hall.

Three goals inside 23 minutes from Gus Scott-Morriss, James Morton and Jack Bridge gave the hosts the lead before Cameron Coxe pulled one back three minutes into second half. Bridge netted his brace to restore the three-goal cushion before Matt Robinson pulled another back with a header.

The Wood

Our excellent start to the season continued last time out as we welcomed Woking to Hertfordshire, Matt Rush’s poked finish with 33 minutes on the clock proving to be enough, sealing a 1-0 win.

This followed a share of the spoils at Scunthorpe United in a 1-1 draw and a professional 2-0 victory against Boston United.
