Match preview: Altrincham (H)

12 September 2025

Tomorrow, Luke Garrard’s are back in Hertfordshire for the third time within the space of a week in a top eight clash as we host Altrincham, kicking off at 15:00.

Last season for Alty

A side often contending for a place in the play-offs, the Greater Manchester-based outfit came close to having a chance of playing in the Football League once again last term.

They finished four points off of Southend United in the final play-off place having finished in fourth place in the previous campaign, losing out to eventual winners Bromley at the semi-final stage.

One to watch

An electric forward who made a name for himself in a successful five-year spell at Crewe Alexandra, Charlie Kirk signed for Altrincham in the summer following spells with several EFL sides. The 27-year-old’s impressive showings at Gresty Road caught the attention of Charlton Athletic yet failed to make a lasting impression with the Addicks as stints at Blackpool, Burton Albion and Barrow followed.

The Wood

A midweek National League Cup triumph over West Bromwich Albion U21’s ensured we remained top of Group B. Although Torin Ntege broke the deadlock for the young Baggies on 36 minutes, goals from Junior Dixon, Charles Clayden and Erico Sousa secured a 3-1 win.

This followed an impressive Enterprise National League victory over Morecambe last weekend as we ran out as 3-0 winners with a Matt Rush brace and a Lewis Richardson strike.
