Match preview: Scunthorpe United (A)

23 September 2025

Tomorrow, Luke Garrard’s side are heading back to Lincolnshire for the second time in five days with a trip to fellow high-flyers Scunthorpe United, kicking off at 19:45.

Last season for the Iron

After back-to-back relegations which saw them go from Sky Bet League Two to the Enterprise National League North, Andy Butler halted the slide and secured promotion back to the fifth tier at the first time of asking.

Having been in contention to win the title for the whole campaign, the Iron went up via the play-offs after being two points behind champions Brackley Town – getting past Chester in a 2-1 win in the Promotion Final.

One to watch

Playing an integral role in their promotion to the National League, lethal striker Callum Roberts netted 20 league goals last term and will be looking to replicate that form this season. The former Notts County man joined the Iron from Scottish Premiership side Aberdeen last summer and has one goal and four assists to his name so far this campaign.

The Wood

Second-half strikes from Zak Brunt and Abdul Abdulmalik ensured the Wood sealed a 2-0 win at Boston United last time out. This meant we stayed top of the form guide with our fourth win in a row, stretching the unbeaten run to ten games in all competitions.

This followed two impressive home wins against Morecambe and Altrincham as well as a National League Cup victory over West Brom U21’s.
