Match preview: York City (A)

Tomorrow, Luke Garrard’s make the trip up north to lock horns with a York City outfit on the back of consecutive victories in their pursuit of promotion, kicking-off at 19:45. 

Last season for the Minstermen 

A total of 96 points would normally be enough to secure the Enterprise National League title but due to Barnet’s persistent excellence throughout last term, York had to settle for a place in the play-offs. 

Finishing in second place meant they had a home fixture against Oldham Athletic, a fixture where they fell to a 3-0 defeat to the eventual winners of the play-offs.

One to watch 

A ruthless striker who has already netted nine goals in 13 league appearances, Ollie Pearce will be looking to spearhead York’s promotion charge. The 30-year-old arrived in North Yorkshire ahead of the 2024/25 season from Worthing, playing an integral role in their second-place finish having netted on 31 occasions in the National League. 

The Wood  

Our unbeaten run stretched to 16 games last time out thanks to a comfortable 2-0 win over Eastleigh thanks to second-half strikes from Abdul Abdulmalik and Lewis Richardson.

This was our third clean sheet in a row following impressive 3-0 victories away from home at Yeovil Town and Eastbourne Borough, the latter in the Emirates FA Cup, which has set-up a First Round tie against Sky Bet League Two side Crawley Town next weekend.

Last time we met

It was honors even with the Minstermen in both clashes in the 2023/24 campaign.

Dipo Akinyemi opened the scoring for York on 21 minutes before Lee Ndlovu equalised 12 minutes into the second-half. Although Quevin Castro restored the one-goal lead five minutes after the leveller, Ndlovu was on hand to ensure we headed back to Hertfordshire with a point with his brace.

The reverse fixture was a 1-1 draw at the Mangata Developments Stadium Meadow Park – Chris Bush broken the deadlock with a stunning strike seven minutes from time but Adam Crookes’ last-gasp strike meant the points were shared.
